And you thought carpal tunnel syndrome was bad. Here are six women tackling some of the most challenging jobs in the world.

THE NUMBERS Canada has 2,500 women in uniform in Afghanistan (7.5 percent of our forces). Thirty Canadian soldiers were killed in the region last year.
THE MOST DANGEROUS PART OF HER JOB "The IEDs [improvised explosive devices, or roadside bombs]. There's nothing you can do to avoid them. They can be everywhere, and they're hard to detect. When we're under fire [however], we can respond. We find the enemy, neutralize them and carry on with the mission."
